Grow your business at Paris Air Show

Rob Homes - VP Aerospace, Hardide Coatings shares insights into the biggest business opportunities this year and how airshows could help you grow

Paris Air Show - the largest aerospace trade show in the world - returns this year after a four-year break and is a fantastic opportunity to get your company noticed, meet potential buyers, generate leads and grow your global network.

Taking place from 19 - 22 June 2023, Paris Air Show attracts around 140,000 trade visitors from all around the globe. It’s a huge draw with 140 aircraft performing flying displays and exhibiting.

The last airshow - which took place in 2019 - saw a record number of exhibitors, with over 2,450 companies present and over $140 billion worth of orders placed by customers all around the world.

With 2023 set to be a major year for growth for the aerospace industry and complementary sectors, this could be the year to get your company in front of customers at a time when they could be making pivotal decisions around future business including long-term contracts for current and next generation aircraft programmes.

Growth markets

“In addition to the general recovery of the aerospace market, there are five key areas where the most rapid growth is anticipated which could offer great opportunities for the supply chain,” says Rob, who has been observing the market closely.

  1. Maintenance, Repair and Operations: The MRO market is performing well, particularly as airlines service the rationalised fleet that operated during the pandemic and growing numbers of aircraft return to service as travel demand increases.
  2. Defence: Many aerospace companies have been diversifying their supply portfolios to a greater level in defence, which offers a historically high level of stability and growth. Demand for defence solutions has also been increasing due to geopolitical tensions. BAE Systems Tempest - the next-generation combat aircraft which is delivering world firsts in advanced technical capabilities - is an example of a programme which could offer fresh opportunities for the UK supply chain, especially now international partners have been secured in Italy and Japan. 3. Space: The UK Space industry is valued at around £14 billion and there has been a 27% growth in space manufacturing. The sector is going to become more and more important which is why the UK wants to be at the forefront. This could create new opportunities and funding streams for the UK supply chain operating in complementary sectors like aerospace, especially in the Midlands where the £100m Leicester Space Centre has been built.
  4. Advanced Air Mobility: This emerging sector – which includes drones and evtol (electric vertical take-off and landing) – is predicted to grow to $510bn by 2040. Given the high levels of innovation required to achieve rapid technological advances, the sector offers a particularly great opportunity for companies developing disruptive solutions.
  5. Greener technologies: As the aerospace and aviation sectors work at pace to achieve the ambition to reach ‘jet zero’ by 2050, the supply chain is likely to be revolutionised with new ways of working that significantly reduce carbon emissions and enable rapid innovation. These advancements offer opportunities to companies with fresh ideas and disruptive technologies including electrification solutions, additive manufactured components and many more.

How airshows can help your business grow

“Airshows bring the industry together to network, discover new innovations and trade. Attending could enable you to meet potential customers, generate leads, spot new business opportunities, grow your network and identify suppliers/strategic partnerships,” says Rob, who has been using airshows as a platform for business growth for over 20 years.

Airshows are great for aerospace companies wanting to expand in the market or diversify into complementary sectors such as defence, space and advanced air mobility. Likewise, they are a great platform for companies operating in other sectors who want to get into aerospace.
